on the { scale } of manipulation

remember back in the day when mom would buy us a disposable camera and we would go into the wilderness (or backyard) and snap shots of a ladybug crawling across a flower petal, a toad sitting in the windowsill corner or our friends or siblings jumping into a pile of leaves? we would venture out into the world searching for our next masterpiece to place on the refrigerator for the next week.  instead of going out and searching for her next set-up, lori nix creates her own photo environment by hand.  each diorama is only  centimeters in size and allows her to manipulate it to her desire.  her inspiration: our, as humans, everyday environment inhabited by humor and chaos intertwined with the beauty and tranquility of nature.  if you would like to see her full collection, you can click here or go and see it in person as it is currently at the toledo museum of art until march 18th.

{ pop-out } art

how cool are these!? yuki matsueda is only 21 who graduated from tokyo university of the arts with a ph.d.  his claim to fame is taking average, everyday items and exaggerating specific details of each.  my favorite is the one with the line of speckled eggs...  what about you?

sidewalk { chalk }

we have all had those days were we sit on the black top drawing out our fantasies of dragons, future homes with flowers and going to the moon.  well, these individuals took it to a whole new level that made you take a double take on reality.

{ tech } age

in the last two decades, our society has gone from writing letters with a pen and piece of paper to sending a wireless side note within seconds.  we started with floppy disks, moved to cds and evolved into personal handheld computers that are the center of our universe.  we have lost touch with our true selves as we have become dependent on the internet and social networks to do our personal tasks.  nick gentry has taken these obsolete media files and transformed them to express our true identities that are conserved within the files under the paint.

creative { crayola }

stumbled across this crayola diy painting yesterday and figured i would share.  i love its rustic look while being bold with the different lengths of the bright and rich colors.  no need to go spend hundreds of dollars on an abstract painting when you can do one yourself at the cost of a crayon box (and i guess a canvas).
step 1: line all of the crayons of the colors your want in your final design along the top of a canvas, attaching them with either tape or glue (depending on whether you want to remove them after)
step 2: apply heat by simply running a hairdryer over the crayons until they begin to melt
voila!! you have your abstract art! im thinking you could get even more creative and melt in swirls? hm...
