cap { toe } diy

we have been seeing a lot of color blocking this season, especially in the feet accessories.  emily schuman from cupcakes and cashmere first introduced us to some from her selection here.  kelly framel from theglamourai also introduced us to zara's fall shoe collection with their fun and outrageous colorblocking combos here.  now, geri hirsch from because i'm addicted and sophie monet from stylehive have came up with a slight variation of the color blocking (more of a cap toe) that you can do on your own (and for a lot cheaper).  in their diy, they just color the toe of a pair of boots with white paint but why not add more color to the rest?  why not instead of white do a green or pink or even a stripe of gold above the cap toe detail?  get creative!

{ last minute }

halloween

if your anything like me, you leave halloween costume determination and design to the last minute.  i always am finding myself scrounging around the few days before for the most perfect costume to wear.  im not one to go out and buy one of those $50 pre-made ones that you can buy at the halloween stores (and look like about 80% of the people at the party).  instead, i like to use clothing items that i can reuse.  last year i was a peacock where i used a bright blue dress and attached feathers to it.  it turned out beautifully and cost my about $20 overall.  i have worn the dress since such as in the summer for a dinner party (the blue looks great against tanned skin).  i figured i would supply some of you last minuters with a few ideas as well.  if you already have one, share with me.... what are you going to be??

{ role } play

sorry about a lack of postage yesterday.  yesterday morning was my first anatomy exam (cross fingers for me) and i didn't have time to do anything this weekend but study, study, study.  once i was done, i participated in 'medical monday' by relaxing and sipping on some vino.  i just wish i had one of these fun little cupcakes to accompany my party scene:
can you say yum?!

creative { crayola }

stumbled across this crayola diy painting yesterday and figured i would share.  i love its rustic look while being bold with the different lengths of the bright and rich colors.  no need to go spend hundreds of dollars on an abstract painting when you can do one yourself at the cost of a crayon box (and i guess a canvas).
step 1: line all of the crayons of the colors your want in your final design along the top of a canvas, attaching them with either tape or glue (depending on whether you want to remove them after)
step 2: apply heat by simply running a hairdryer over the crayons until they begin to melt
voila!! you have your abstract art! im thinking you could get even more creative and melt in swirls? hm...
